Living a heart healthy lifestyle takes dedication, commitment, support, knowledge andaccountability. At the Cardiac Support Group and the Diabetes Support Group, you'll find passionate health care advocates encouraging your efforts while presenting the latest medical information. You'll also make new friends along the way, as you share common concerns and challenges in a supportive group environment.
The Cardiac Support Group meets the second Wednesday of the month October through April at 6:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Classroom at UH Samaritan Medical Center, 1025 Center Street in Ashland. For more information about the support group, call 419-289-0491, ext. 3435.
Keep in mind that heart disease strikes people with diabetes more than twice as often as those living without diabetes. In fact, two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke. Even so, a recent survey found that 68 percent of people with diabetes are unaware of their increased risk for heart disease or stroke. It is essential for diabetics to adopt a healthy lifestyle to manage their condition.
The Diabetes Support Group meets the third Thursday of the month, with the exception of June, July and August, at 7 p.m. at UH Samaritan on Main, 663 East Main Street in Ashland. For more information about the support group, call 419-289-0491, ext. 3111.
